Privacy Policy
Walk for Android · Last updated: August 27, 2026
Walk is a step-counter app for Android. This policy explains what data the app handles and how. In short: Walk keeps your activity data on your own device and does not sell, rent, or share your personal information with anyone.
Data stored only on your device
The following never leaves your phone unless you deliberately export a backup:
- Step and activity data Walk reads your step count from your phone's built-in step-counter sensor (requiring the Physical Activity permission) and stores your daily and hourly totals locally on the device to show your progress ring and charts.
- App preferences Your daily goal, theme, accent color, and last-viewed tab are stored locally.
This data is used solely to display your step progress inside the app. It is not transmitted to us or to any third party.
Push notifications
If you enable notifications, Walk registers with Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to receive push notifications. To do this, a device notification token and the platform name (android) are sent to our server so we can deliver notifications to your device. This token is a random identifier for your app installation; it is not linked to your name, email, or any personal identity, and it changes if you reinstall the app. Google processes the token as part of delivering the message. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings, and the token is discarded when you uninstall the app.
Backups
Walk lets you manually export and import a backup of your step history. Exported backups are saved to a location you choose on your own device or storage. We never receive or have access to your backup files.
Donations
If you choose to donate, Walk opens a payment page in your web browser handled by PayPal. The app itself never sees or stores your payment details. Any information you enter there is governed by PayPal's own privacy policy.
What Walk does not do
The Walk app has:
- No user accounts or logins.
- No advertising and no ad identifiers.
- No analytics or usage-tracking SDKs.
- No collection of your name, email address, contacts, or location.
- No selling or sharing of personal data.
Children
Walk is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Data retention and deletion
This section explains how to delete data associated with the Walk app.
- Data stored on your device All step and activity history and app preferences: this data is stored only on your phone. To delete it, uninstall the Walk app — all of it is removed immediately with the app. We never receive or store this data, so there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
- Push notification token The only data sent to our server: it is deleted automatically from our server within 30 days after uninstalling the app. No other personal data is retained.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
